Rohatsu Sesshin at Egely Monastery: November 30 - December 8.

Rohatsu means "December 8", and refers to the day Siddharta Gotama woke up to Buddhahood and became Shakyamuni Buddha. Siddharta sat zazen for 8 days under the figtree in Bodhgaya in India. Zen's tradition for the 7-day sesshin originated here.

The week of November 30 - December 8 is an especially auspicious time for sesshin. Thousands of Zen Buddhists are sitting zazen thoroughout this week.

Here, then, is a unique chance to deepen your practice with among other things three times daily dokusan with a recognized Rinzai zen Master, Teisho, many hours of deepening zazen.

Please fill out the application no later than November 16, 2010. If you previously have sent us an application, and have NO updates, please apply by way of our contact form. After you are accepted, your place can be reserved by depositting the cost of meals, DKR 950, to our acct.: 6961 - 3163702150, swift: DABADKKK, iban: DK4230003163702150. If the fees to make this deposit are excessive, please contact again so we can work something else out!

Back to normal

The programmet at Egely Kloster is back to normalt.

Tuesday & thursday evening 19:15 - 20:45
Tuesday morning 9 - 10:30
Saturday morning 9 - 11/12

Open Monastery

August 16-22 (maybe longer) will be open interim period at Egely Kloster.

Any than this the fall program is still not fixed. If you should have any wishes please let us know as soon as possible.

Teisho on-line

A teisho by Denko is now on-line for your enjoyment. Teishos are given during sesshin, intensive retreats, so they might not be fully apreciated – or understandable – without a good amount of zazen experience.

This one is based on Hekigan Roku case 47 (Ummon's "Beyond the Six"), is in english and given during short sesshin in July 2010. It can be found at http://www.rinzai.dk

Morning zazen

There will be morning zazen (and maybe dokusan) every Tuesday at 9-10:30 unless we are in sesshin.

This is so that single parents can participate while children are in kindergarden or school, but it is open for everyone that have time and would like to.

For you who have access to member pages!

I have uploaded photos from the Jukai ceremony that took place during Holy days sesshin. 2 people received dharmaname.

DANA is now tax-free

We, Rinzai Zen Buddhist Society (former Skandinavisk Zen Center), have - as expected - been approved as a religious society by the Danish tax authority. This means that gifts, dana (and monthly donations), to RZBS - and thereby the monastery - are tax-deducible for citizens of the EU (as far as I understand. We will investigate how) from January 1, 2009 (yes, this year).
